Common mistakes

  • The most common time-zone error is applying daylight saving in the wrong direction, or forgetting it applies to only one of the two cities named -- the November 2023 paper's New York question needed DST applied to New York but not Cape Town, which catches learners who assume DST applies everywhere or nowhere. A second common error is reading the GMT offset off the wrong line of the World Time Zone map's grid rather than the city actually named in the question.
