Afrikaans

Afrikaans help for South African learners

Afrikaans is taught as a Home Language or as a First Additional Language, and the two have different exam papers. ReClass has Afrikaans questions from real past papers for both.

Practice, homework help and exam prep all add to the same ReClass Learning Passport, so you can see which parts of Afrikaans are going well and which need more work.

Afrikaans by grade

These are the Afrikaans topics with enough past-paper questions to practise. Each topic page shows real questions from past papers.

Grade 10 Home Language and First Additional Language

Grade 11 Home Language and First Additional Language

Grade 12 Home Language and First Additional Language

Home Language or First Additional Language

Schools offer Afrikaans as Home Language or as First Additional Language. They are separate subjects, each with its own curriculum and exam papers, and Home Language papers expect a higher level of Afrikaans.

ReClass asks which one your learner takes: when you sign up and choose Afrikaans, or the first time they start Afrikaans homework or a Learning Check. Practice then uses questions from that level where ReClass has enough of them.

Work through Afrikaans homework

Stuck on an Afrikaans homework question? Homework Assist works through it step by step, with hints one at a time.

For a First Additional Language learner, explanations and hints start with English alongside the Afrikaans. After a run of correct answers without help, the English support steps back. Home Language learners start in Afrikaans only. If they get answers wrong, or need help to get them right, a few times in a row, English support is added.

See which parts of Afrikaans need work

A Learning Check shows how your learner is doing on each Afrikaans topic, such as reading comprehension (leesbegrip) and language structures (taalstrukture). Practice, Learning Checks and Homework Assist all add to their Learning Passport.

Preparing for an Afrikaans exam

Add the exam in My Exams, attach an Afrikaans past paper for your grade, and see which topics it covers and how you’re doing on each one. Each paper is marked Home Language or First Additional Language.

When a tutor can help

If a topic still isn’t improving with practice, you can find a tutor. A tutor you book can see your learner’s Learning Passport, so the session can start where help is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which grades does ReClass have Afrikaans for?

The grades listed under “Afrikaans by grade” on this page. Those are the grades where ReClass has enough Afrikaans past-paper questions to practise.

Does ReClass cover Home Language and First Additional Language?

Yes. ReClass has past-paper questions for both, and asks which one your learner takes so practice and homework support match it.

Does Homework Assist just give the answer?

No. The learner does each step themselves. The full solution only opens after they’ve used every hint and tried the step twice.

Is it free?

Your child’s first Afrikaans Learning Check is free, where one is available for their grade, and shows which parts they find hard, like comprehension (leesbegrip), grammar or summary writing. Tutoring sessions are paid for when you book them.
