Common mistakes

  • Mixing up the dairy breeds. The Jersey produces high-quality milk with a high butterfat content; the Friesland or Holstein produces white milk with a low butterfat content.
  • Treating horses and donkeys as ruminants. They are grazers but monogastric; a goat is a ruminant with a four-chambered stomach.
  • Naming meat as the main product of every goat. The Angora goat is kept for mohair, and the Saanen and Toggenburg are dairy goats.
