Grade 12 Business Ventures

Business Studies practice questions and a worked example

Grade 12 Business Ventures covers management and leadership, investment, insurance, forms of ownership and presentations. The questions here ask you to identify leadership styles and theories from a scenario, compare investment options such as shares, RSA Retail Savings Bonds and fixed deposits, work out simple interest and an average clause claim, explain compulsory insurance such as the Unemployment Insurance Fund, and judge how a form of ownership contributes to the success or failure of a company. You also plan presentations and deal with feedback. The questions follow the NSC paper format: short Section A items, scenario questions and a 40-mark essay, each with the marking guideline's answer.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving out the formula or the working in an average clause calculation. The marking guideline gives marks for the formula and each step, not only the final amount.
  • Describing a success factor when the question asks about failure, or the other way round, in questions on forms of ownership.
  • Naming a leadership style or theory without the quote from the scenario that the question asks for as motivation.
