Grade 12 Business Operations

Business Studies practice questions and a worked example

Grade 12 Business Operations covers the human resources function and quality of performance. The questions here ask you about recruitment, selection and interviews, placement and induction, the employment contract, salary determination methods and fringe benefits. On quality, you explain the difference between quality control and quality assurance, apply the PDCA model and the elements of total quality management to a scenario, and give quality indicators for business functions such as marketing, administration and public relations. The questions follow the NSC paper format: short Section A items, scenario questions and a 40-mark essay, each with the marking guideline's answer.

1. An employment contract should include the personal details of the employee, such as their name and contact information. This ensures that the contract is specific to the individual. 2. The job title or position should be clearly stated. This defines the role the employee will be fulfilling within the company. 3. Remuneration details, including how and when the employee will be paid, must be included. This provides clarity on the financial aspects of the employment. 4. The hours of work, including normal working hours and any overtime expectations, should be specified. This sets clear expectations for the employee's working schedule.
