Worked example

10.2.1 An exhibitor will be demonstrating video editing software to groups of people in sessions of 10 to 15 people. He needs to obtain a number of large MPEG and AVI files, as well as a program file called VIDMaker.exe, from his friend Hans in Germany. Give TWO reasons, with reference to the scenario, why Hans may decide NOT to send these files as e-mail attachments.

Answer & explanation

Any TWO: most e-mail systems limit the size of attachments (the MPEG/AVI files are large); some e-mail systems block attachments with potentially dangerous file extensions (VIDMaker.exe); e-mail is not always secure; e-mail can be slower than other transfer methods for large attachments.
1. Many e-mail systems have size limits for attachments, which means large MPEG and AVI files might not be sent successfully. This is a common issue when dealing with large media files. 2. E-mail systems often block attachments with certain file extensions, like .exe, because they can be potentially dangerous. The program file VIDMaker.exe might be blocked for this reason. These limitations make e-mail an unreliable method for transferring large or executable files.
