Grade 7 Geometry

Maths practice questions and a worked example

Grade 7 Geometry covers classifying triangles and quadrilaterals by their properties, naming the parts of a circle, identifying transformations, and calculating the perimeter, area, surface area and volume of simple 2D and 3D shapes. Questions here are drawn from a real Grade 7 school exam paper (Tom Newby School, November 2022), covering the shape-classification, transformation and measurement questions that make up a Grade 7 geometry test.

Worked example

True or False: The sum of the interior angles of a triangle is 360°.

Answer & explanation

False
The sum of the interior angles of any triangle is always 180°. This is a fundamental property of triangles. The statement given in the question claims that the sum is 360°, which is incorrect. Therefore, the correct answer is False. Remember, 360° is the sum of the interior angles of a quadrilateral, not a triangle.

Common mistakes

  • Confusing similar-looking quadrilaterals (a rhombus is also a parallelogram, but not every parallelogram is a rhombus), and forgetting to include every face when calculating the total surface area of a rectangular prism.
