Grade 10 Water Resources

Geography practice questions and a worked example

Grade 10 Geography water resources questions cover water on Earth, oceans, floods and water management. The questions here ask you to name the processes of the hydrological cycle, explain ocean pollution and overfishing, describe the causes and effects of floods, and suggest ways to manage and save water, using case studies such as the Cape Town water crisis and inter-basin water transfers. They come from the Eastern Cape Grade 10 Geography Paper 1 for November 2018 and November 2019 and the November 2020 exemplar Paper 2, each with the answer from the marking guideline.

Worked example

3.5.1 Explain what is meant by water transfer.

Answer & explanation

Water transfer is moving water from one area to another
Water transfer involves the movement of water from regions where it is abundant to areas where it is scarce. This process is often necessary to support agriculture, industry, or domestic use in areas that do not have sufficient water resources. By transferring water, regions can manage their water supply more effectively and ensure that all areas have access to the water they need.

  • Listing a strategy without saying how it saves water or reduces damage.
