Grade 10 Business Operations

Business Studies practice questions and a worked example

Grade 10 Business Operations covers how the different business functions work together, and the legislation — like the Consumer Protection Act and National Credit Act — that shapes how a business runs day to day. Practice questions work through real scenarios: explaining how business functions depend on each other, applying consumer protection law, and telling quality control apart from quality assurance.

Worked example

3.2 Outline consumers’ rights according to the National Credit Act.

Answer & explanation

Consumers have a right to: apply for credit; receive information in one's official language; be protected against unfair discrimination in granting credit; be given reasons why an application for credit is refused; be informed about the interest rate and other costs of the proposed credit transaction; receive a copy of a credit contract; and apply for debt counselling if they have too much debt.
The National Credit Act outlines several rights for consumers. Firstly, consumers have the right to apply for credit and receive information in their official language. They are protected against unfair discrimination when credit is granted. If a credit application is refused, consumers must be given reasons for the refusal. Additionally, they should be informed about the interest rate and other costs associated with the proposed credit transaction. Consumers also have the right to receive a copy of the credit contract. Lastly, if they find themselves with too much debt, they can apply for debt counselling. These rights ensure transparency and fairness in credit transactions.
